Little Cowgirl Baby Shower Ideas

Toy Cow Pink Candle Holder FavorA little cowgirl theme can be awfully adorable for a baby shower. If your mom-to-be is a country girl at heart, she’ll love this festive theme.

Cowboy hats can be the attire of the day. Make sure there’s one for each guest as well as the mom to be. Bring in a baby-sized one as well just because it looks so cute.

Your invitations can be purchased with little cowgirls (you can find them online) or you can make them yourself. Try using cardboard or heavy card stock and cutting them out in the shape of cowboy hats. Cover with real denim cut from jeans or use a denim wrapping or craft paper. Write your details on the back. Ask everyone to come in jeans and white shirts. If they have cowboy boots, ask them to wear those as well. But any boots will do. The mom to be will chuckle when she sees everyone dressed in cowgirl attire.

Have bandanas as your napkins. Lay them out in triangles on the food table and have them spread out under platters. Use different colors or go with all red or another color to keep a theme color throughout. It’s up to you. These are simple ways to add the cowgirl touch. If you really want to do it up for the little cowgirl, do only pink bandanas.

Now the fun really begins. Find stuffed cows and horses, the bigger the better, and rope them up with some yarn or twine. Bring in some country music CDs and if you dare, spread hay on the floor. Anything you can do to make the theme more authentic will make it more fun.

You can bring in a wagon wheel or any decorations you might have that lend themselves well to a country barn atmosphere. You can even make a faux barn door out of cardboard, paint it, and prop it up behind the food table or make the guest of honor walk through it when she comes in.

Your foods can be finger foods that you might find at a ranch or campfire. Pigs in a blanket, hot dogs or corn dogs, hamburgers, or corn on the cob all work well. Make up your own version of Cowgirl Punch. It can have ice cubes in the shape of horses (molds are found at craft stores) or any other jazzy way to spice it up for your theme. Just be sure to label it Cowgirl Punch so guests get the idea. Bring in a guitar shaped cake or have horse cupcakes. Either use plastic horses from a toy store to decorate, or have a bakery design horses in icing for you.

Buy fun plastic cups (online or through a specialty party shop) that are in the shape of cowgirl boots or horses or some other barnyard theme. It will look cute when everyone is carrying them around the party. Arrange flowers in clean cowboy boots. Just be sure to put a container inside to hold the water first! Then go wild with roses or wildflowers.

You can play baby shower games that revolve around western themes or cowgirl trivia. Play old cowgirl movies or the Dixie Chicks CDs. Anything you do to keep the theme going will be really fun.

Two Peas in a Pod Baby Shower Ideas

Two peas in a pod baby shower favorsIf you know an expectant mom who is having twins, what better way to shower her with love and affection than to host a Two Peas in a Pod baby shower? This theme can be adorable when you work it through all the décor and food.

Many sites online that sell baby shower favors and décor will have this theme, but you can also do a lot of it yourself.

The invitation should reflect the theme. You can draw two baby faces in a pea pod, color the pod green, and copy the design on a color copier for your invitations. Or, order a pea pod invite online. Write a cute poem about twins if you’re good with a pen. A site called baby-shower.com offers this poem by Jennifer Williamson that you can also include inside:

Two peas in a pod, just as snug as a bug
Two babies to cuddle, to kiss and to hug
We couldn’t be happier, for we’re aware
The best of all things in the world come in pairs.

Serve foods like, you guessed it, snap peas so that guests can get a chuckle out of the cuteness factor. Serve other foods that go together like pigs in a blanket. The cake should definitely carry the theme as it will be the centerpiece of your table. Ask a bakery to create pea pods out of fondant icing. A good baker will have heard of this theme and may even have a photo of a cake she’s done to show you. She can roll fondant icing to make two baby faces to put on the cake. The rest of the cake can be green with round polka dots of fondant in a coordinating color. You can also have cookies made that are decorated with pods and baby faces done in royal icing.

Image by Ana_Fuji on FlickrFor the color scheme, go with green. Have green balloons that will simulate peas and plates and cups in green. You can sometimes find the pea pod theme, especially if you shop online.

Games you can play include any games where you have to double up with a partner such as feeding your partner a jar of baby food faster than the other team. Think up pair races or other fun games that include doubles like listing famous couples and their children’s names. You’ll get a good laugh at what everyone comes up with.

If you want, make a pea pod hat out of felt for the mom to be to wear. If she’s a good sport, she’ll love it and it will make for cute photos.

For baby shower favors, give out creams or candies that have pea pod labels on them. You can make them off a computer with clip art of peas or you can order them pre-made online. Or double up gifts like two packs of mints or a pretty pen and pad. You can also give those cookies in pea pod design as your favors if you wrap them in tulle or cellophane.

One thing to note is that if you are attending a pea pod shower, you should bring two gifts—one for each baby unless you are opting for a larger gift like a crib or playpen. Any clothing you buy should be given in two sets, especially if you know the sex of the twins.

Monkey Themed Baby Shower Ideas

3 little monkeys gift basketIf you know a mom to be who’s having a boy, throw her a monkey themed baby shower. It’s an adorable nod to the fact that little boys will climb and run all over the place as soon as they learn to walk. Oh, and they also love their mommies and will cling to them like baby monkeys do.

Start with the invitations. You can create them yourself or buy them preprinted in a monkey theme. Go with a banana if you are making them yourself. Cut out yellow paper and glue it to cardstock in the shape of a banana. Print your invitation details on the back. There are many really cute monkey invitations already designed for you, so this is one theme you can definitely find lots of help with especially online.

Ask guests to come in monkey attire. This can be monkey slippers, monkey pjs or robes, or any monkey clothing they might have. Designer Paul Frank does a line for Target stores that has a huge monkey face on it. You can find this design in handbags, pjs, robes, tee shirts, and more. So go out and grab a piece of Paul Frank attire for the mom to be as well.

The sock monkey is an over-the-top charmer. Include sock monkeys throughout your décor. You can now find the sock monkey at any craft or big box store as they have recently come back into popularity. You can set sock monkey dolls on your food table around bunches of bananas for a simply charming tablescape. Use yellow tablecloths with brown accented plastic ware and cups to keep the jungle monkey feel going.

You can set a jungle baby shower table that features banana themed foods. Have banana bread, frozen chocolate dipped bananas on sticks, and banana cupcakes. You can even make a gelatin that has bananas floating in it. Just be sure you leave yourself enough time so it can set. Pour it into individual glass cups or a fancy mold before hand so you save yourself some time.

Next on your list are the decorations. String lights and palm trees or fronds you can find in paper or silk at a party store. Make it a little jungle room with monkeys that hang from the ceiling. Or tie on some small monkey stuffed toys to streamers so they look like they’re swinging through the room.

Cozy Monkey Blanket (Personalized)

Your cake can be a sock monkey face or have cupcakes that are designed to look like cartoon monkey heads.

You can have sock monkey-making supplies as a craft for the ladies to do during the shower. Kits are now available for small monkeys that can be finished in little time and with little crafting know-how. It will be really cute for each guest to take home a little sock monkey they made themselves. Or they can donate them to the mom to be for the nursery or bring them to a hospital for children.

It can be really fun to have a monkey themed baby shower. You can keep it light and fun and everyone will have a great time. Send everyone home with “monkey mix” which can be as simple as Chex mix with some chocolate chips thrown in. Or go with bags of dried banana snacking chips.

Winnie the Pooh Baby Shower Ideas

Winnie the Pooh Baby Shower Decor (Diaper Cake)Every generation of babies has loved Pooh bear, the A.A. Milne story book character since he came to life in 1926. Disney has since brought him to a whole new audience that parents and children can’t get enough of. If you remember Pooh from your childhood, or you just know a mom to be who loves Pooh, he can be a very cute idea for a baby shower theme.

Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, and Christopher Robin are all part of the clan that lives in Hundred Acre Woods. You can make your own woodsy haven at your baby shower. Start with lots of honey bees. Pooh loves honey and all things related to honey or bees will make the party more fun. Get giant cut-out bees from a party or craft store or make them yourself with yellow and black paper. Hang them from the ceiling and on walls. Fill a jar with toy bees that you can find at dollar or craft stores, and set them out on tables. You can have people guess how many are inside a jar and offer a prize at the end of the party.

Bring in a potted tree or draw one on giant paper. Tape it to the wall. Find stuffed dolls of Pooh and his friends and gather them around the base of the tree.

You’ll want to center your food around honey and foods that a pudgy bear would love. Find recipes that include honey as the main ingredient. Print out labels for each dish so everyone gets it that it’s a honey cake or bub. Offer honey for tea, and have a few jars of honey around. Use beeswax candles that look like honeycombs. Berries and nuts are also favorites of bears. Why not include bear claw pastries or honeydew melon?

Have little snippets from the Pooh books on pretty cards around the room. Or use clip art of vintage Pooh and friends to decorate walls and tables. Create a walkway with brown paper that makes it look like a journey through the Hundred Acre Woods. Bring in branches or hang leaves from the ceiling to give a forest roof feel.

Play games that relate to the Pooh stories or movies. Make up questions and have them on index cards so guests can answer the questions for prizes.

Image by efleming on FlickrIf you have little children coming to the shower, they may want to dress up as a character from the books. It’s easy to find Pooh costume items at baby stores year round. They love to dress up and you’ll have adorable little helpers to run around and entertain everyone.

It's a really fun day when the theme of your shower is as light and airy as Pooh. He gets into so many adventures and has so many mishaps that you can find one that’s right to display at the party. Have a stuffed Pooh in a honey pot or show him getting stuck in a tree hole because his belly’s so big.

Wrap baby shower favors like small bear candles or Pooh notebooks or stickers in Pooh wrapping paper. Don’t worry about overdoing it as the theme lends itself to over the top fun.

Twin Baby Shower Themes

Twins are double the fun, right?  For mom and dad, though, they are double the work!  Double the blessings, to be sure, but double the clothing, double the diapers, the bibs, the food... Help mom and dad out with a twin baby shower.  Here are some fun themes that celebrate twins and the double love they bring to a family.

There are plenty of cute baby shower themes for twins, and you could also opt for a more general twin theme for the entire party.  Let's take a look at two popular themes to get your creative juices flowing.

Image by Ana_Fuji on FlickrPeas-in-a-Pod. It's very easy to do peas-in-a-pod.  Your baby shower favors, for instance, can be several green jelly beans wrapped in green cellophane.  Twist and tie at the end, and you have an adorable pea pod.  For decorations, you can get balloons and green cellophane.  Wrap an inflated balloon in the cellophane and make little twists at both ends to resemble a pea.  For twins, simply do two balloons – or two peas in the pod!  You can do this with triplets as well.  You can also:

  • Bake sugar cookies and frost them with green icing for peas.
  • Make several small round cakes and ice them with green frosting, adding a bit of darker green icing for cute vines and leaves.
  • Find peas-in-a-pod salt and pepper shakers for your decorations or favors.
  • Make peas-in-a-pod with bath bombs and green cellophane.  Just as with the green jelly beans, place two bath bombs in green cellophane and twist the ends and secure with ribbons.  This is a cute, fun favor for guests.
  • Look online for sales on favors and decorations. You can find cute pea candles, green streamers and balloons, and much more to add to the theme of your baby shower.

Another very fun baby shower theme, this Dr. Seuss-inspired party is sure to be a success.  Again, this is a fairly popular theme – and rightly so! Because of this, you will be able to find premade supplies.  You will also be able to make a great deal of the decorations, favors, and food on your own.  When decorating for a Thing 1 and Thing 2 baby shower, use lots of red, blue, and aqua balloons – not pale shades, but bold, bright colors.  Find tablecloths or napkins featuring bold red and white stripes; dishes and flatware can be bright red, blue, bright yellow or green.  Very Dr. Seussian.

  • Make Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes.  These are adorable and simple to make.  Make red velvet cupcakes in red liners.  When cool, frost them with white frosting and add blue cotton candy for their hair (you can buy bags of cotton candy at many stores and online). You can make little labels to stick on the liners that say Thing 1 for some cupcakes and Thing 2 for others. Delicious and mischievous.
  • Image by Flickr's KaterhaFor decorations, simply Google “Dr. Seuss pictures.”  You will find printable coloring pages, which may be a fun party activity, especially if there will be children there.  Otherwise, you can color these yourself and hang them around your room, framed with red, blue, yellow, or green ribbon or dangling from ribbons suspended from the ceiling.  You can also buy big wall decals or signs online.
  • Find inexpensive white, blue, and red paper lanterns and hang them around the room.
  • Prop Dr. Seuss books around the room.
  • Make green eggs and ham.  Really!  You could make deviled eggs and splash a drop of green food coloring in the mixture.
  • You must get Thing 1 and Thing 2 onesies for the twins.

Twin baby showers are all about double the fun.  Make sure to acknowledge and welcome two babies in all of your decorations and details: twice-baked potatoes, double cheeseburgers, twin pops, two flavors of drinks or ice cream, sets of two stuffed animals, and, hopefully, two sets of great baby gifts!
