Laugh Out Loud Baby Shower Games

Image by Pedro Rivas Ugaz on FlickrIt can be really funny to make grown adults play silly games. Especially at a baby shower where everyone is there to have a good time. Go wacky with your baby shower games and everyone will be laughing out loud.

One idea is to make adults race against each other in dressing a baby. This is especially funny when there are men at the shower. Oh, and don’t forget you have to blindfold the contestants! Have two baby dolls on two tables or next to each other and spread out diapers, shirts, socks, shoes and jackets. The contestant has to dress their baby doll faster than the other, and correctly, in order to win.

Another fun game to play is “Feed the Baby.” This game is especially hysterical when you use real baby food. Here’s how to play. Get two teams of two. They should be your most fun-loving guests. Each team has one “baby” and one “mommy.” The object is for the mommy to feed her baby a whole jar of baby food as fast as she can. The team that finishes their feeding first wins. This gets messy and is so funny. Many people switch out the jar’s contents for cottage cheese or yogurt. But it’s really fun to make the participants eat bland baby carrots or strained peas. See if your crowd will be up for it and make sure you hand out bibs first so guests don’t mess up their party clothes.

Another fun game is the memory game. As guests come in, give them a piece of paper but don’t tell them what it’s for. After everyone has arrived, ask the mom to be to leave the room. Each person holding a paper must write down exactly what the mom to be was wearing. It’s funny to see how many people didn’t even notice and can’t describe her outfit at all. Another version of this is to ask the guests to figure out what’s missing from her outfit if she stays in the room. Make it obvious. A large brooch or attractive pin will be hard to miss. Yet most people will miss it.

Photo by Graham and Sheila on FlickrGames that get everyone up and out of their seats are the most fun. After all, the object of the party is to celebrate and have a good time. Many guests won’t know each other and so games are a good way to get everyone to mingle. Just be sure you have a crowd that’s up for letting loose. There’s nothing worse than a game falling flat on its face because no one is in the mood to play. Get the festivities started on a high note and then keep the energy going.

Offer prizes for good sports. Make the baby shower favors and prizes attractive enough so everyone will want to join in. Gift certificates, nail polish, candy and cookies are all good ideas. Wrap them in colorful cellophane so people can see what they are without having to open them. Guests will be more likely to join in if they see a festive table full of gifts that they would like.

Baby shower games can be as outrageous or a sedate as you like. Play some at your next baby shower and see how much fun it can be to get everyone laughing.

Image by Graham and Sheila on FlickrNursery Rhyme Fill Ins

Guests are given a sheet with parts of nursery rhymes printed on it and asked to fill in the rest of each verse. The winner is the one with the most correct answers.

Things in Mommy’s Purse

This game is especially fun if you have women who love big purses. The sheet includes lists of things that could be in a lady’s purse. As women look through their bags, they can check off any items that they’ve got. It’s fun to see who has brought the most in their purse!

Celebrity Moms and Dads

This matching game will tell you who’s in the know when it comes to the stars. The sheet asks you to match the celebrity with the name of their children.

Animal Babies Match

This game asks guests to tap into their knowledge of the animal kingdom. Can they match the adult animal with the name of its young? It’s harder than you think.

And Mommy Wore

How good are your guests’ skills of observation? Have the new mom to be leave the room. Hand out these sheets and ask guests questions about her appearance. The one who has noticed the most wins.

Baby’s Beautiful Reflection

Everyone wants their best traits passed on to their baby. This hysterical game has traits listed. Everyone marks down whether they think the baby will get that trait from their mom or dad.

Back in the Day

This game asks guests to match famous TV parents with their on-screen offspring. It’s funny to see just how many guests can accurately remember.

Image by basykes on FlickrEverything Baby A-Z

This game has guests racing to be the first to name 26 things that relate to baby—one for every letter of the alphabet.

In addition to these online printables, you can print your own games using your own computer. Tailor your games to the mom to be. If you’re having a co-ed baby shower, include the names of both parents. You can invite people to give their advice to the new parents by offering a decorated card to write their pearls of wisdom on.

Using any kind of program you have, such as Microsoft Word, you can create hilarious game sheets. Make up games using the name, likes and dislikes of the mom to be. If you know what the baby is going to be named, you can design a game around it. Use colors or animals that the mom has chosen for the nursery theme as part of your game. And the more you get everyone involved, the more fun it will be.

Free Baby Shower Games

Image courtesy of >>>wondermike<<< on FlickrA baby shower is a fun time for ladies to gather around the mom-to-be and shower her with well-wishes and gifts for her baby. It should be a festive time with lots of cheer. Games can help break the ice for guests who don’t know each other and get everyone in on the fun.

Here are some free baby shower games that you can play. Ideas for prizes include gift cards to nail salons or coffee houses, mugs filled with candy, small candles, fresh-baked cookies wrapped in pretty cellophane, pens, notepads and other dollar store type items.

Belly String

The mom-to-be will be nice and round by the time you host the shower. A fun game is to give every guest a roll of string and ask them to cut off as much as they think will fit around the mom’s belly. They’re not allowed to measure. They have to eyeball it. The one who comes closest wins a prize.

Set up 10 baby bottles filled with M&Ms or little candies. Arrange them like bowling pins. Use a small ball such as a beach ball or small croquet ball and have each guest bowl for prizes.

The Name Game

There are variations on this fun game, but one way to play is to ask guests to sit in a circle. Each guest, as their turn comes up, must shout out a baby name that starts with a letter of the alphabet. The first person will get “A” and shouts out “Angelina!” and so on. Each guest only gets three seconds and if they can’t come up with a name by then, they are eliminated. No repeats!

Diaper Game

When guests come in give them a little diaper baby shower favor that you have made. This should be a piece of cloth napkin wrapped as a diaper and secured on with a diaper pin. Everyone will ooh and ah at such a cute little favor. What they don’t know is that you have smeared chocolate inside one of the diaper favors. The person at the end of the festivities who opens theirs and finds the “dirty diaper” wins a prize. It’s great for a good laugh. Plus, the pins look cute as everyone is walking around.

Don’t Say It

As guests enter and walk around the baby shower, what’s the one word you’ll hear over and over? That’s right, “baby.” As a fun game, you can instruct everyone that they’re not allowed to say baby. If they do, they’re out. The person who has not said baby by the end of the party wins a prize.

Diaper Race

Image by ewen and donabel on Creative CommonsYou’ll probably have both new moms and grandmothers at your shower. This is a fun way to see who can diaper and dress a baby the fastest. Start with two baby dolls. Add a pile of clothes that includes a diaper, socks, onesie, pants and hat. Start the race by having two ladies race against each other to dress their doll. Hilarious laughter will erupt as even the most seasoned ladies fumble.

On the spot Scrapbook

Have on hand a blank scrapbook and lots of baby decorations, markers, crayons, sequins, glue sticks, cutouts and other baby-themed cut outs. Allow each lady to create a scrapbook page for the new mom. When the book is finalized, give it to the new mom so she can include photos of the new baby. Another idea is to take digital photos of each lady at the shower and print them out at the party so each guest can glue their own snapshot in along with their message.

The whole idea of having games at the baby shower is to make everyone mingle and loosen up. Make sure your games are enjoyable for even the smallest attendees and that the older folks are also able to join in. Your shower will be such a success you may be asked to host the next family shower!

Baby Shower Crafts - Create Onesies For The New Baby

Image courtesy of Joe Shlabotnik on Creative Commons

Here’s an idea you can use whether you want to create a personalized baby gift to give at a baby shower or if you want to include a fun craft-making session as part of a baby shower. You can decorate onesies. Onesies are those cute little baby bodysuits that snap at the bottom. You can find them at any discount store.

What you’ll need to create a decorative and personalized onesie is the following:

  • A package of soft onesies (found at discount stores in the baby section)
  • Fabric markers (found at craft stores)
  • Iron on paper (found at craft or office supply stores)
  • Baby designs (find clip art online)
  • Scissors
  • Pressing cloth or towel
  • Computer and printer
  • Iron

If you’re going to include this craft session as part of a baby shower, set up a station and include all the materials already prepared so your guests can get right to the fun.

Before the shower, find clip art of baby-themed designs or cartoons online. Type in “baby clip art” and you’ll find a number of free designs pop up. You can choose from rocking horses, bottles, pacifiers, teddy bears and more. If you know the theme the mom to be has chosen for her nursery, try to find designs that relate to it. If she’s going with an ocean theme, you could do starfish or boats or seashells.

Photo courtesy of Crystl on FlickrYou’re going to want to cut and paste the designs into a Word document on your computer. Simply right click on the design to save it onto your computer. Then paste it into your document. If you’re challenged on the computer, ask a tech savvy friend to help out. Chances are they’ll know how to do this easily. Once you’ve arranged all your designs in a Word document, you’re going to print them on Iron-On paper.

Insert the Iron-On paper into your computer. Be sure you face it the correct way according to the manufacturer’s directions inside the package. You should try a test run before you use the actual paper to make sure everything is aligned the way you want it. Go ahead and print your designs onto the Iron-On paper.

Cut out the individual designs and arrange them on your craft table where the guests will be making the onesie baby gifts. You’ll also want to place the fabric markers, iron, and other supplies there.

Photo by Fred Jala on Creative CommonsWhen guests arrive, you can let them help themselves to the supplies to make a onesie of their choice. All the guest have to do is iron the decal onto the onesie. (Protect the table surface with a towel or pressing cloth.) Then guests can write with fabric markers either the baby’s name or “with love from Gramma.”

Note that sequins, beads and other tiny objects should not be used as they can come loose and baby could swallow them. Also, do not use 3D puff paint for this project as it tends to dry scratchy and may not be the best surface for baby to cuddle up against.

Guests will love joining in on this project and the resulting onesies will be a delight for the mom to be.

If you are doing this project as a gift for a baby shower you will be attending, you can roll your finished onesies into a bouquet and tie them together with string. Present them as a bouquet with your gift card.

Throwing a Baby Shower on a Budget

Image by Pacopus on FlickrIf you have never hosted a baby shower before you may not realize just how much it costs. You have the expenses of baby shower favors, invitations, food, plates, forks, cups, drinks, and games and prizes and possibly even more. However, there is a way that you can throw a wonderful baby shower on a shoestring budget. It just takes a little planning and some creativity.

Invitations

You can go out and buy the invitations or you can get creative and make them yourself. It’s not always easy to come up with the right material but you can make invitations with construction paper or stock paper. If you know calligraphy, you can create a formal invitation that is unique and beautiful. If you are going to use a theme for your baby shower then purchase stamps that display the theme so you can stamp each invitation. Save on stamps by passing out as many invitations as possible. A personal invitation means more when it is hand delivered.

Rubber ducky party decorationDecorations

Over time, it’s easy to accumulate streamers from various occasions but streamers are not that expensive to buy per roll. You can decorate with streamers in a variety of different ways. Streamers can be tied, twisted, placed in a special design, and can come in many different colors. Search online for templates that can be printed out and applied to cardboard to hang up at the party. Place some string through the top and hang decorations from the ceilings. Use the streamers to highlight or accent.

Purchase some small pieces of material from your local sewing shop and cut them in half. Fold them up to resemble a cloth diaper and use a small safety pin to pin the diaper together. These homemade cloth diapers can be made with any color or theme, depending on what you want the decor to look like. You can place name cards in the diapers, a number used to draw on the doorprize for the evening, or a baby shower souvenir. Flower seeds are a great souvenir to place inside the cloth diapers with a little note telling everyone to plant their flower seeds on the day that the baby is born. You may want to place the flower seeds in saran wrap or zip lock bags so the seeds will stay fresh until they are planted. You also want to make sure that the flowers fit the season. You can also use the cloth diapers to place mints or nuts in.

Photo courtesy of Aprillynn77 on Creative CommonsGames and prizes

There are several baby shower games you can play with guests that cost little to no money. Draw a baby face, measure mommy, and guess who the baby is. To draw a baby face, you need a paper plate and crayon. For the measure mommy game, you need cheap toilet paper or yarn. To guess the baby, you simply need all the guests to bring a baby picture of themselves and have the guests match the baby picture to the right person. You will still need a prize for the winner who got the most right.

Prizes should be simple like candles, bath and body kits, or a disposable camera. It’s best to keep the prizes simple so you can use most of the money on everything else. After all, it’s about the mommy-to-be and not so much about what prizes there are to take home.
